Test Points

Test points provide technicians with direct hardware access to smartphones that no longer respond through standard USB communication. When a device is bricked, locked, or completely unresponsive, these contact pads on the motherboard act as a reliable pathway to place the phone into EDL, EUB, or bootrom/preloader modes.

By enabling low-level access, test points make it possible to continue repairs even when software-level tools cannot communicate with the device. Inside Chimera Tool, they are essential for restoring devices that would otherwise be impossible to revive.

What Are Test Points?

At their core, test points are dedicated pads built into a phone’s motherboard to support factory-level servicing. When these pads are shorted or connected according to the correct diagram, the device can enter special repair modes like EDL, EUB, or bootrom/preloader, even when the phone fails to power on or respond to commands. This provides a direct hardware route to perform advanced operations.

By forcing the device into these modes, technicians can carry out procedures such as flashing, FRP removal, bypassing software-level restrictions, and recovering phones stuck in critical failure states.

Certain repairs become impossible once a device stops responding through regular USB channels. Test points ensure technicians can still reach the chipset, communicate with the phone, and continue the recovery process even in severe crash or bootloop scenarios.

Depending on the chipset and model, test points allow entry into EDL for Qualcomm, EUB for Exynos, and bootrom/preloader for MediaTek devices. These modes form the foundation of many deep repair operations performed in Chimera Tool.

How Test Points Work in Practice

To use test points, the technician begins by locating the correct diagram for the specific phone model. Chimera provides downloadable guidance showing the exact position of the pads, helping users avoid mistakes during disassembly. Once the phone is opened, the pads are carefully connected or shorted as instructed, placing the device into the required low-level mode.

After the connection is made, the phone becomes detectable by Chimera Tool. From there, technicians can perform operations such as flashing, unlocking, FRP removal, or deep repair tasks. The diagrams and step-by-step instructions help ensure a safe workflow, reducing the risk of hardware damage and supporting consistent results across a wide range of devices. With clear diagrams and detailed instructions, technicians can execute test point procedures with confidence.

Chimera Tool®
Test Points Library

We are building a comprehensive library of Test Point photos, PCB diagrams, and blueprints to make locating test point pins on smartphone motherboards easier than ever. Our goal is to provide a single place where technicians can quickly find the details they need.

If you know the test points of a specific device, share them with us and receive credits in return. Together, we can create the most complete and valuable test point collection for the entire community.
