MTK Xiaomi Patch IMEI

This document created at Mar 11, 2022, 9:05:59 AM and modified at Nov 8, 2024, 10:57:50 AM.

The following procedure will patch the IMEI of your device by tampering the phone’s Android system. Some of the newer models or phones with newer Android version will require additional steps to run this procedure successfully.

Our Patch IMEI solution works for all currently available Xiaomi phones with MTK SoC according to our research.

You don’t need to do any special steps for older Xiaomi phones (like devices with MT67XX SoC). You can disable the boot patching mechanism if you have Magisk or other root solution installed on your device. In case of a phone with an original firmware and a locked bootloader you just need to start the procedure with the default settings.

For newer phones (like MT68XX Dimensity) there can be a couple of cases:

Bootloader can be unlocked officially only

Chimera tries to detect this case and notify you about it. If we fail to detect it or you still proceed then the phone may stuck into bootloop with a screen showing the following message ‘The system has been destroyed’.

If it happens to you then you need to do the following steps:

•  Use the Store/Restore Backup procedure to restore the backup that was created during the execution of Patch IMEI. After that the phone should boot up without an issue.

•  Ask for bootloader unlock officially (https://www.miui.com/unlock/index_en.html)

•  If the phone’s bootloader was unlocked properly you can retry the procedure.

Factory Reset

We've encountered a couple of issues when the IMEI patch was removed after a factory reset. In a worst case, it can cause the phone to unable to boot up and shows the 'NV data is corrupted' error on the screen. In case of this error, you must reflash the phone with suitable firmware and the error will be gone. After that, you can re-run the Patch IMEI procedure to reestablish the patching.
