In this document, we are going to introduce USB update mode.

What is USB Update mode?

Huawei USB Update Mode is a special mode that allows Huawei devices to receive firmware updates or system repairs through a USB connection. This mode is typically used for flashing firmwares and unbricking devices.

How can I connect my Huawei device in USB update mode?

EMUI 9.X and Magic UI 2.X
Press the VOLUME UP key, VOLUME DOWN key, and the POWER key at the same time, until see the HUAWEI logo display. The phone enters the automatic upgrade mode, and the upgrade is started.

EMUI 10.X and Magic UI 3.X
Press the VOLUME UP key and the POWER key at the same time, then it will enter the recovery interface, then choose the “Update mode > USB update mode” to start the upgrade.

What can I do in USB update mode?

You can use the USB Firmware update procedure to install new or updated software on a device via a USB connection, which is particularly helpful if the device cannot boot, is malfunctioning, bricked, or is unable to complete a regular update.
